Why Osteoarthritis is Not a Life Sentence

osteoarthritisIt’s Arthritis Awareness Week from 23rd to 29th March.  Everyone has heard of the term ‘arthritis’ and whilst many may joke that they are suffering from the condition, having an ache or pain every now and then, the actual reality of living with the advanced condition is life changing.

There are many different types of arthritis, which is basically when a joint becomes stiff, sore, or even painful, limiting mobility and affecting general day-to-day activities.  One of the most common types is osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis varies in severity, and affects every single person in a different way, often affecting different joints. Despite that fact, the condition does tend to occur in major joints, such as the hips, knees, and hands. As a result, day-to-day movement can be impaired. Picking items up, walking, standing, sitting for long periods and doing general tasks we often take for granted, can become difficult.

Life with osteoarthritis is a significant life changer, but when regular Trigenics and instrument spinal adjustments at Spine Scan is implemented, life could become much easier.

Treatment of Osteoarthritis

Here at Spine Scan, we see and treat countless individuals with all different types of arthritis, and we are experienced in helping these sufferers understand the condition, and manage it effectively.

There is no cure for osteoarthritis, but treatment methods to reduce swelling, pain, and inflammation, can make life much easier. Dr Adam Rocchi, the Chiropractor within the South Perth office, is available to help those finding life with osteoarthritis difficult.

Chiropractic treatment has long been associated with arthritis management, and for good reason. After a firm diagnosis has been made following examination and discussion, the low force treatment and adopting an exercise plan can help strengthen the associated musculature around the joint which support the joints movement in daily activities. Often, through the complex “kinetic chain” within the body, a muscle that is neurologically challenged further up the chain is to blame for a dysfunction and pain elsewhere. For this reason a thorough examination each visit is essential.

There are also suggestions that regular gentle chiropractic treatment can help slow down progression of osteoarthritis, through helping to improve motion, alignment and the motor strength around the joint to slow down the degeneration of the joint.  However,  even at its most basic level, chiropractic can help an individual feel more mobile, healthier, and as a result, freer to go about their daily lives, with less in the way of pain.  The Chiropractic approach to health also focuses on prevention.  By maintaining normal movement and function within the joints, the wear and tear of osteoarthritis is less likely to occur.

Gentle movements to the affected joints can help improve mobility, strengthening the structures around it, in a pain-free and hassle-free manner.
